Obituary of Martha Bodie

LUGOFF – A private family burial service for Martha Morrison Bodie, 79, will be held in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.  A public memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Bodie passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at MUSC Kershaw Health surrounded by her loving family. Born in Birmingham, Ala., she was the daughter of the late F. French and Pansy Morrison. She worked at C. Ray Miles Construction and formerly owned and operated Country Acres Daycare.  Because of her dedication and love of the children at the daycare, she became a second mother to so many children of Lugoff. When she joined C. Ray Miles Construction, they also became part of Martha’s extended family and she loved them dearly.

Her love for others was a reflection of the Love of Christ whom she put first in her life. When Martha was a young girl, she made her choice to serve the Lord.  She and Bill opened their home for Sunday Morning Fellowship and over the years, their home was always open to friends and strangers alike. Their little meeting and the fellowship they shared was so very special and dear to her heart.   Martha and Bill married in December of 1964, and while they raised 3 children of their own, they are considered to be parents to many.

She treasured and loved spending time with her family especially her dear grandchildren. And she loved her little dog “Daisy Mae”.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, William Fletcher Bodie; children, William Keith Bodie (Michelle) of Camden, Carey Bodie Combs (L.J. Henley) of Camden, and Kimberly Bodie Parker (Lee) of Lugoff; sisters, Emily Trotter (Art) and Miriam Hoyum (Raymond); brother, John Morrison (Peggy); and grandchildren, Cody Bodie, Amanda Buckelew (Trey), Jordan Rabon, Tyler Parker and Holly Parker, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, F. French and Pansy Morrison, her sister May Olive, and her in-laws “Pa” Bill and “Mama” Ruth.
