Obituary of Mary Alberta Lee Johnson
Mary Alberta Lee Johnson, 92, of Lugoff, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021. Born in Augusta, GA, on October 14, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Rebecca Johnson Lee, and the wife of the late Sam Johnson. Mary was an active member of High Hill Baptist Church, where she served in many roles including church secretary, missionary, usher, and choir member. She retired from the South Carolina Department of Mental Health as a housekeeper. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be deeply missed by those that had the pleasure of knowing her.
Left to cherish her fond memory are her children, Minnie Gripper, Sterling Johnson, Clarence Johnson (Melanie), and Michelle Johnson; grandchildren, Corey Gripper, Tomekia Barkum (Theoplies), Jami Gripper, Neil Johnson, Marisha Johnson, Aubigny Quelland (Levi), Tierra Richardson, Darius Cantey, and Kyla Cantey; great-grandchildren, Quintin Dixon, Jamar Bennett, Nicholas Barkum, Dejun Jones, Nia Barkum, Niya Barkum, Nivea Johnson, Kaidyn Tucker, Nadia Johnson, Messiah Hopkins, Nyla Johnson, Maleigha Alexander, and Caspian Cantey; her special nieces, Ernestine Brown, Beverly Brown, and Delores Salmond; two special caretakers, Missy Rutherford and Janice Williams; as well as a host of other family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sons, Larry and Randy Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, officiated by Rev. David Stratford. Burial will follow in High Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. A public viewing will be held from 10:00am-5:00pm on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Powers Funeral Home.
