Obituary of Matthew Carl Whitaker

Matthew Carl Whitaker, 28, of Camden, passed away on Sunday January 16, 2022. Born in Camden, he was the son of Angela Whitaker Lique (Scott) and the husband of Heaven Leanne Jackson Whitaker. Matthew graduated from North Central High School, where he also played football. He went on to get an associate degree from Midlands Tech. Matthew was an avid sports fan, and he loved the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Miami Hurricanes. Matthew also loved to volunteer his time at Scream Acres Haunted House during the Halloween season. He enjoyed listening to music, fishing, taking trips to Myrtle Beach, and was affectionately called “Smexy” by his wife. Matthew was a good hearted and compassionate husband, brother, son, and friend, and will be deeply missed by those that had the pleasure of knowing him.

In addition to his wife, Matthew is survived by his siblings, Jonathan Whitaker (Ashley), Alexandra Whitaker, and Brandon Smart (Victoria); a step-sister, Amber Threatt; brothers-in-law, Noah Jackson (Allie) and Skyler Webb; sister-in-law, Allyssa Jackson; his father-in-law, Jamie H. Jackson (Amy); grandmother, Beverly Blackwell; grandmother-in-law, Patricia Clary; his aunt, Alisha Carey (Nick); a niece, Audrey Smart; and nephews, Elijah Whitaker, Logan Whitaker, Victor Harper, Elias Little, and Weston Smart; as well as his work family at Kimbrell's.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandfather, Alton Whitaker; grandfather-in-law, David Clary; aunt, Amanda W. Drew; and mother-in-law, Tiffany D. Jackson.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.
