Obituary of Benjamin Earl Scruggs
A Funeral Service for Benjamin Earl “Bugsy” Scruggs, 89, will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church.
Mr. Scruggs, husband of the late Donnie Ruth Scruggs, passed away at home on Saturday, September 3, 2022. Born in Meridan, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Wiley Hugh Scruggs and Ora Edna Eubanks Smith. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Bremerton CA-130 Cruiser and retired from International Paper where he was the materials manager. He was past president of the Industrial Material Manager Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and was an avid Alabama Football fan. Mr. Scruggs was a faithful member of Lugoff First Baptist Church, where he served as past Sunday School Director and a deacon.
He was a loving father and grandfather and leaves to cherish his memory, son, Alan Keith Scruggs (Jennifer) of St. Stephens, Ala.; daughters, Lezli Scruggs Rabon (Tim) of Lugoff and Jennifer Scruggs Outlaw (Allen) of Lugoff; brother, Norman Hugh Scruggs (Loretta) of Orange Beach, Ala.; grandchildren, Tyler McElveen, William Wesley Scruggs, Elliott Rabon, Emalie-Kate Rabon, Maddi Rabon, Aubrey Rabon., Jordan “JoJo” Rabon, Amanda West and Drey Brooks; and great-grandchildren, Easton Rabon, Greyson McElveen, Harper Collins, Brynlee Stephens and Banks Stephens. He was predeceased by step-mom, Maxine Scruggs; step-dad, Bennie Smith; son, Steven Elliott Scruggs; and brothers, James L. Scruggs, William E. Scruggs and Wayne Scruggs.
