Obituary of Douglas M. Basham

CAMDEN – Funeral service for Douglas Matthew Basham, 74, will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jimmy Atkerson will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Mr. Basham passed away on the morning of Sunday, March 30, 2014. Born in Owensboro, Ky., he was the son of the late Oscar and Clara Bradley Basham. He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. After his retirement he worked for Blake and Ford Inc. in Camden and Vertek in Bethune. He was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 17 and enjoyed playing golf. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Mary Elizabeth Brannon Basham; sons, Douglas Matthew “Doug” Basham II, (Beth) of Lugoff and Barry Ian Basham of Camden; sister, Faye Lancaster of Owensboro, Ky.; grandchildren, Brandon Basham, Matthew Basham and Rebecca Dorris; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Jeanette Collier.
