Obituary of Terry Dowey

LUGOFF-A celebration of life service for Terry Wade Dowey, 66, will be held Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Eric Boone will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-3 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church.

    Mr. Dowey passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late Alex Dowey and Doris Jackson Dowey. Mr. Dowey served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. Once a month he hosted a Veteran’s Breakfast at the church. He enjoyed working in construction, fishing, hunting, and helping others, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and in his “Man-Cave.”

    Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Jackie Dowey; children, Chris Dowey (Destiny) of Lugoff, Stephanie Dowey of Lugoff, Ted Dowey (Ashley) of Camden; siblings, Delores Napper of Elgin, Frankie Dowey of Lugoff, Arnie Dowey of Elgin; a sister-in-law, Vivian Dowey of Lugoff; brother-in-law, Larue McGee of Lamar; grandchildren, Peyton, Bryson, Paisley, Brantley, Henry, Brody, Etta Mae; and his dog companion, River. He was predeceased by a brother, Steve Dowey; and a brother-in-law, Glenn Napper.

    The family extends a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at PRISMA Health Richland for their care of Mr. Dowey over the past few days.
