Obituary of Betty Lee Goude

Sylva, N.C. - Betty Goude went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully asleep on Saturday, April 05, 2014. She was born in Scranton, SC on December 7, 1929 to Rev. and Mrs. Ernest B. Lee, Pentecostal Holiness ministers. On April 11, 1947 she married Rev. James M. Goude, a Church of God minister. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Ernest and Hatttie Lee, her husband, James Goude, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her sister, Nolie Terry of The Villages in Florida, and three children – her oldest son Rev. James Dexter Goude and his wife Tammy of Reagan, TN, the only daughter Marla Johnson and her husband Rev. Harold Johnson of Franklin, NC and her youngest son Rev. Dana Goude and his wife Marsha of Venice, Florida. During her 84 years, she acquired 11 grand-children, 16 great grand-children and 10 great, great grand-children. Betty graduated from the last 11th grade graduation class of Scranton High School and was able to attend their 67th class reunion in 2013. She spent her life not only as a preacher’s kid but also as a minister’s wife, pastoring with her husband in South Carolina, Texas, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Florida. She also worked outside the home in administrative management positions. She loved to sing for the Lord and taught her children to follow the musical talents and spiritual callings upon their lives. Her enthusiasm to attend and fellowship with her church family was very evident as she encouraged her children to encourage their children to be a part of a local church body. Known as “Beautiful Betty” at Macon County Senior Services, she enjoyed hanging out with her friends. A memorial service will be held at Bethel Worship Center on Thursday, April 10th at 6:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 5-6 pm prior to the service. She will be laid to rest beside her husband during a private service at Winter Beach Cemetery in Winter Beach, FL.
