Obituary of Mary Alice Smith

Mary Alice Smith, 83, of Elgin, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Purdy and Annie Estelle Branham, and the wife of the late Paul Smith. Mary was a longtime member of El-Bethel Faith Community Church in Lugoff. She enjoyed serving in various ladies’ ministries within the church. She also loved cooking, spending time with her grandchildren and being “Nanny” to the kids in her neighborhood.

Mary is survived by her children, Earl Hinson (Charlene), Eugene Hinson, Sheran Jackson (Cary), and Angela Peake; her sister, Johnnie Mae Bradford; as well as 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sons, Clyburn Hinson Jr. and Steve Hinson; siblings, Roy Branham and Charlie Branham; and her grandson, Clyburn Hinson, III.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at El-Bethel Faith Community Church with Rev. Jay Keith officiating. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00pm. Burial will follow the service in Hardshell Cemetery, Lugoff.
