Obituary of Nancy Jo Weems

LUGOFF- A celebration of life service for Nancy Jo Weems, 68, will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to S.C. Oncology to the Nurses in the Chemo Therapy Unit.

    Mrs. Weems, also lovingly known as “Big Boss Lady,” passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at her home surrounded by family. Born in Olympia, WA, she was a daughter of the late Charles Ray Wood, Sr. and Juanita Faye Prine Wood. Mrs. Weems was a loving wife, mother, daughter and “Mee Maw.” She was the 1972 Spring Valley High School Miss Future Homemaker and worked as a caregiver for children, and individuals that were disabled or had special needs. She enjoyed shopping, fishing, growing flowers, reading, country music and was a Motown fan.

    Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Richard E. Weems; children, Carrie A. Purvis (Joseph), Brian Mac Weems (Kristina); grandchildren, Savannah Wood, Brianna Bates, Alyssa Weems, Joseph Purvis, Jr., Caleb Weems; great-grandchildren, Esmay Bates, Waylon Wood, Emery Bates; and siblings, Mike Wood, Rick Wood, Chuck Wood and Gary Wood. She was predeceased by a brother, Toby Wood.
