We will miss Dickie and how he enriched the lives of those he touched. He was a fun loving family man and also created an enjoyable work environment for his staff. At the hospital he was always available for a consult and to help solve a problem.
Our sincere condolences to Ann, Katie, Liz and family.

To Ann, I did not know "Dickie" personally, but I remember him from the first day my family and I toured Circle Center in search of a place for my mother. His starched pink shirt, his blue jeans, and sockless loafers caught my eye right away. "Such a natty dresser", I thought to myself! You and I spoke several times outside the center as we waited for your loved ones in the hot summer afternoons, and I just had to let you know that I am sorry for your loss. I pray that you will find peace in your memories, and comfort in knowing that "Dickie" left an impression on so many others - in big and small ways.
My condolences to you and your family.

So sad to learn of Dr. Dickie Carpenter’s passing. I remember first meeting him while he was the pathologist at Metropolitan Hospital. I was always impressed by his diagnostic skills always exceeding the norm. Richmond lost a great pathologist to Rappahannock Hospital. But our paths crossed over the years socially and it was always a delight to see him.

I am very sorry to hear of Dr. Carpenter's passing. He never failed to amaze me of all the knowledge he had in pathology and any other topic you wanted to talk about. He was a great inspiration to me and it was a privilege to have had the opportunity to be part of his laboratory team at RGH. My sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace Dr. C.

I am so sorry to learn of Dickie's passing. He was a wonderful friend and indelible part of my life when we were both growing up in Columbia, SC, where we were classmates at A. C. Flora and fellow members of St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church and Troop 4 in the Boy Scouts.
Twenty years ago, I called Dickie at his home in Virginia. I regret to note that we'd been out of touch for a long time. But Dickie answered my out-of-the-blue call that night and spent an hour patiently helping me understand medical issues critically important to non-MD me. I have no doubt Dickie's friends and colleagues and patients have many such stories about his unfailing kindness and generosity.
My heartfelt condolences to Ann, and to Bobby, and all Dickie's family.
He brightened and enriched us all.

I cannot express how upset I am to hear about Dr. Carpenter's passing. I had the great pleasure to be his histo tech not once but twice. And I am sad that I am not going to get to do it a third time, as I threatened him I would. He was the best pathologist I ever worked with, and I broke one of my rules just to work with him longer. He was a great person and was committed to everything he chose to do. My condolences and best wishes go out to his family. I just know he's up in heaven playing golf.

Dr. Carpenter was one-of-a-kind in the best way possible. Intelligent, articulate and cultured, yet always approachable and willing to listen and to teach. And funny. I consider it a privilege to have worked with him.

Dr. C was a dear friend and one of the most important mentors in my life. Always witty and quick with a joke, he was one of the most articulate people I have ever known. Document precision was another forte here in the laboratory at RGH. (At one point he aspired to the position of Director of Document Precision!) I was so fortunate to have worked with him for 21 years.
