LUGOFF – Graveside service for Raymond Dowey, 83, will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Eric Boone will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Mr. Dowey, husband of the late Judith M. Dowey, died Thursday, April 24, 2014. Born in Lugoff, he was the son of the late Ernest Preston and Beulah Peake Dowey. He retired from the United States Navy having served in Vietnam. After retirement from the Navy, he worked for Hewitt-Robin in Pontiac, delivered newspapers for The State Newspaper, and farmed and sold produce. Mr. Dowey enjoyed fishing and farming. Surviving are his daughters, Rhonda Catoe (Richard) of Lugoff and Emily Dowey of Lugoff; sisters, Dorothy Catoe (Sidney), Ernestine Ray (Claude), and Linda Rhodus (Bill); brothers, Ronald Dowey (Mary), Sam Dowey and Lester Dowey; 7 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sons, Raymond Dowey Jr. and Christopher Michael Dowey; daughter, Lucy Virginia Branham; sisters, Mary Brown, Sarah Ray, Reola Campbell, Ophelia Moak; and brothers, Bobby Dowey and David Dowey.
