Obituary of Patricia Dempsey Hayes

Camden- A funeral service for Patricia Juanita Dempsey Hayes, 65, will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with burial to follow in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. James Smith will officiate. A public viewing will be held Friday from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.

    Mrs. Hayes passed away on June 5, 2023. Born in Camden, she was a daughter of the late Patrick Dempsey and Mary Louise Carter Dempsey. Mrs. Hayes was raised in St. Paul United Methodist Church and became a of member of Plain Truth Ministries in Rockingham, N.C. She loved church and attended several local church services. Mrs. Hayes was a nurse and devoted her life to taking care of others. She served over 3,000 patients in the counties of Richland, Fairfield, and Kershaw, along with many others in various communities.

     Left to cherish her memory is her husband, John Edward Hayes of the home; sons, Terrance Hayes (Jessica) of Columbia, S.C., Justin Hayes of Camden, S.C.; siblings, Dyanne Dempsey of Martinsville, VA, Theresa Dempsey of Camden, S.C.; Napoleon Dempsey (Jane) of Lancaster, S.C.; Carol Nicholas of New Haven, CT; grandchildren, Hasan Workman, Tamia Wright, Jadyn Starling, Jeremiah Hayes, and Mason Hayes; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends. She was preceded in death by siblings, Richard Dempsey and Marie Powell.
