Obituary of Maggie Louester Bethea

Maggie Louester Bethea, 78, of Elgin, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023. Born in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Edward Canty, Sr. and Betty McCray and the wife of the late Clarence Bethea. Maggie lived in Patterson, NJ during her early years, where she attended St. Luke Baptist Church. Within the last few years, Maggie had begun fellowshipping and studying with the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Elgin. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was always quick to speak her mind, but she loved everybody she ever met and was a wonderful encourager.

Maggie is survived by her children, Nathan Allen Farmer and Stacy Lynn Williams (Ricco); grandchildren, Javaughn Goode, Tara Brown, Rahmel Burton, Niya Farmer, and Michael Geter; a great-grandchild, Zane Burton; goddaughter, Maggie Ann McCray; siblings, Leroy McCray (Lauvern), Patricia McCray, Mickey McCray (Louise), and Sandra King (Donald); a sister-in-law, Mammie McCray; as well as many loved ones on the Canty side and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Maggie was preceded in death by her adopted mother who helped raise her, Thelma Farmer; and siblings, Earnest McCray, Johnny Lee McCray, Alice Atkinson, and Carolyn Robinson.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00pm on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 11:00am.
