Obituary of Jonnie Randall Clyburn
Jonnie Randall Clyburn, 84, passed away on July 23, 2023, after an extended illness. Born in Camden, SC on December 2, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Cunningham Clyburn Jr. and Mary Hegler Clyburn. Jonnie attended Camden area schools and was an active member of her 1957 graduating class, receiving two senior superlatives, and belonging to the Tri Gamma Sorority and the Glee Club. After graduation, Jonnie attended the Kershaw Memorial School of Nursing and the Grady Memorial School of Nursing in Atlanta. A lifelong learner, she became a real estate agent, became certified in performing electrograms, and attended several seminars on cardiac arrhythmias. Much of her employment was with Dr. B.W. Marshall as an assistant from 1968 to 1983 and at the then Kershaw County Memorial Hospital as a medical clerk and cardiac monitoring tech until her retirement in 2001. Her family viewed Jonnie as an interesting character who loved NASCAR, taking care of the elderly, sending cards to friends and family, growing beautiful flowers, playing bingo, and making sweet treats for loved ones. A favorite quote of hers was, “It’s not where you go in life, it’s who you have beside you that matters.”
She is survived by her son, Paul Mitchell Yount; her sister, Gayle Clyburn Ross; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
In addition to her parents, Jonnie was preceded in death by her son, Jerry “Jay” Randall Yount; and a sister, Marjorie Clyburn Padgett.
Jonnie asked that special thanks be given to Dr. James Kearse and staff; dear friends, Phillip and Pat Hansen; Bob & Miriam Tynow of Summerville; and Carl Matthews, RN, her home health nurse.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 1, at Powers Funeral Home.
