Obituary of Peggy Brakefield
CAMDEN-Peggy Ann Bland Brakefield , 86, died at The Colonial at Old Camden in Camden, SC on October 26, 2023 . A graveside service will be held on November 6, 2023 at 11:00 am in Armenia Methodist Church Cemetery, Chester, S.C.
Peggy was the daughter of the late Sylvester Bland and Nealy Bailey Bland McFadden. Her stepfather, Dean McFadden, was very dear to her and she cared for him until his death in 1996. Peggy had two daughters, Cindy Johnson (Mike) and the late Glenda Brakefield. She was born in Chester, SC on February 5, 1937. In addition to her parents and daughter Glenda, Peggy was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Elyse Anderson.
In addition to her daughter, Cindy, she is survived by three grandchildren, Leonard Anderson (Kayla) of Trenton, Texas, Jay Grant (Alyssa) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Byron Grant (Caroline) of Portland, Oregon. Peggy has four great grandchildren, Aiden and Carlie Anderson, Rylie and Emma Grant.
Peggy graduated from Chester High School in 1955. She lived in Chester until 1979 when she moved to Camden, SC and lived there for 44 years. She worked as an administrative assistant most of her working life. The job that she most enjoyed was working at the Camden Archives where she helped people research their family history. Peggy had much interest in genealogy and history, and would travel the state wherever her research led her. She donated all of her compiled research work to the Chester County Genealogical Society several years ago. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter in Camden SC. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, walking, and traveling with friends. She was a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church in Camden, SC.
The family would like to thank The Colonial at Old Camden for the love and care that was shown to Peggy these last 2 ½ years.
