Obituary of Margaret Kirkland Colvin

LUGOFF- A funeral service for Margaret Kirkland Colvin, 83, will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The Rev. Richard Humphries and The Rev. Olin Kirkland will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church.

    Mrs. Colvin passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023. Born in Lugoff, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Leslie Kirkland and Emily Nettles Kirkland. Mrs. Colvin was a member of Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church, where she served as the church pianist for 25 years before retiring in January 2023. She formerly sang with the Crusaders. She enjoyed writing songs, fishing, sewing and cooking.

    Surviving are her husband, Robert Wayne Colvin; daughter, Terrie Allred (Bobby); son, Ricky McPherson; sister, Nadine Boyd (Milton); a sister-in-law, Brenda Kirkland; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sons, Mike McPherson, Randy McPherson, Scott McPherson; a step-son, Brian Colvin;  brothers, J.W. Kirkland, Rev. Arlin Kirkland and Phillip Kirkland; and 2 grandchildren.
