Grandmaaa! What am I supposed to do without you bookie butt ?! It’s been hard to breathe or simply do anything now that you’re not physically here with me ! My heart is so broken! I had the pleasure of seeing you a few months ago not knowing it would be the last. I didn’t get to bring your boyfriend to see you (my son bj) we will definitely miss you and all your funny jokes and faces. Thank you for sharing your stories and love. I remember the day you called and we had to take your dog to the vet and you loved her so much but knew it was her time to cross over and not have to suffer anymore and now yall are together again resting with no more pain. I’m lost for words but I’m honored to have been part of your life you was always a mother figure in my life and my kids as my two oldest would say you was there grandma too! You havre always been real and outspoken you told me what it was all the time weather I liked it or not so I had to respect you for that I always held you at the highest standards ever you was a phenomenal woman and I will always love you!!!! My Miss Joanne…… getting the news nearly knocked me off my feet. There are not enough words that would describe this strong and wonderful woman! Always motherly, I met Miss Joanne by going to visit my bestie and her Mom on P Street (Pacific Street), most of y’all know them as Jessie and Miss Lillie, but she was Grams to me. Anyway, I met Miss Joanne and it was an instant connection. Though she had four kids she embraced me as one of hers as well! So it always felt like family. Always smiling and quick to put you in your place. I always felt warm and fuzzy around her. When my Ninnin passed, she was there front and center. Helped us get the repast location and all. At the repast she happened to see my cousin George (God rest his soul) and she was like what is this guy doing here (with a huge smile). I had to tell her he was my family. Man talk about degrees of separation. She knew him from his lounge/pool hall on Washington and he knew her from the salon. It was even a better familial relationship thereafter. She moved down south but when she visited she ensured that she was in touch. And when we saw each other, she would give the biggest hug with the biggest smile. When I say I’m going to miss her is an understatement. Yvonne, Elaine, Yvette, Grandkids (most adults now) there’s a lot of you all, great grandkids - your Mom, Grandma and great Grandma was force to be reckoned with. She fought multiple galant fights and won with the grace of God. She’s left you all with lasting memories. This is not the finale but the continuation of her legacy! Make her proud. Love you all! She’s dancing with Lamont now.
