Obituary of Anita Brown Griggs

Anita Brown Griggs, 52 years of age, went home to be with Jesus on July 30, 2024. 

 Anita, fondly known as Nita Ree, was born to Harold and Kathy Brown on October 31, 1971. She attended Kershaw County Schools and graduated from Lugoff-Elgin High School in 1989. Anita resided in Elgin with her daughter, who was her pride and joy.  

Life was not always easy for Anita. At eleven months of age, she had a stroke and a heart attack. Doctors did not expect her to live, but she did. Doctors did not expect her to walk or talk, but she did. As a senior in high school, Anita had to have surgery on the back of her legs and had to learn to walk again. When Anita was an adult, she beat cancer. Not long after, she suffered a second heart attack. Through it all, Anita proved she had a fighting spirit and an unwavering sense of humor. Her contagious laughter and encouraging words made people feel happier when they left her presence.  

Anita is survived by her daughter, Jenna Harris; her parents, Harold and Kathy Brown; her sister, Heather Brown Jones (David); nieces and nephews, Jared Brown, Nikki Brown, Ashleigh Altman (Justin), Austin Jones (Ashley), Morgan Kate Jones, Hayden Brown, Chelsea Brown; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Anita is predeceased by her sister, Fran Brown Vincent.  

A graveside funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 1:00 at Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church.
