Obituary of Furman Garris Peake
ELGIN- A funeral service for Furman Garris Peake, 82, will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dan Griffin will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society.
Mr. Peake, husband of the late Joann Stockman Peake, passed away on August 3, 2024. Born in Blaney, he was a son of the late Willie Horace Peake, Sr. and Alma Isabel Phillips Peake. Mr. Peake was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. His first passion was his work so that he could provide for his greatest passion, which was his family. His first job was on the family farm, he then worked as a histologist for Clemson Diagnostic Center, carried the mail for the USPS, was a foreman on a ranch in Blythewood, was an electrician, a master plumber, and was backflow certified for Kershaw and Richland County.
Surviving are his son, Chris Peake (Jo Carol) of Elgin; grandchildren, Jessica Bassett, Amanda Winters (Brian), Kaytie Lynn Peake; great-grandchildren, Braylen, Westley, Violette, Abigail, Kellen; sisters, Ann Threadgill (Ray) of Columbia, Darlene Blume (John) of Elgin; and a sister-in-law, Frankie Peake. He was predeceased by siblings, Horace Peake and Becky Peake.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of The Terrace in Bishopville and Amedisys Hospice for their care and support.
