Obituary of Larry Joe Lucas

LUGOFF- A celebration of life service for Larry Joe Lucas, 65, will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Oliver Gospel Mission.

     Mr. Lucas passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Born in Winnsboro on August 20, 1958, he was a son of the late Henry Riley Lucas and Bertha Marie Busby Lucas. Mr. Lucas spent much of his life working as an auto mechanic and worked the last 25 years at Chuck’s Auto Service in Columbia, where he experienced the love of the MacInnis family. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and his tv shows, In the Heat of the Night and Walker Texas Ranger.

    Surviving are his daughter, Laura Elizabeth Byrd (Rick) of Blythewood; son, Larry Joe “Joey” Lucas, Jr. (Robin) of Lugoff; grandchildren, Tyler Byrd, Maddox Byrd, Riley Lucas, Benjamin Lucas; brothers, Jim Lucas (Sylvia) of Chester, Robert Lucas (Charlene) of Ridgeway, Tommy Lucas of Ridgeway, Billy Lucas (Cynthia) of Winnsboro, Charles Lucas (Eva) of Yuma, AZ; sisters, Barbara Lucas of Columbia, Pauline Bowers of West Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Legrand; brothers-in-law, Charlie Legrand, Jimmy Bowers; and a sister-in-law, Angie Lucas.
