Obituary of Carl Edward Duren

Carl Edward Duren, 72, passed away on Tuesday, September 03, 2024. Born in Camden, SC on December 23, 1951, he was the son of the late James and Bernice Barnes Duren. Mr.Duren worked for Miller Lumber for 20 plus years before the company closed down. He then worked for Ace Hardware as a certified forklift operator. He enjoyed playing pool and won many awards and trophies in pool competitions. He also enjoyed fishing, but above all else he enjoyed being with his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 13 years, Mary Lucille Smith Duren; children, Rotina Anderson-Collins of Atlanta, GA, Carlton Brown Duren of Camden, SC and Dexter Thomas Duren of Camden, SC; step-daughter, Anitra Smith of Camden, SC; step-son, Craig Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sisters, Vivian LeGrand (Terrance) of Carrollton, TX and Melanie Spearman of Georgia; brothers, William Duren of Atlanta, GA, Curtis Duren of Atlanta, GA, Marlin Williams of Elizabeth, NJ; aunts, Michelle Williams of Elizabeth, NJ, Cynthia Baskerville of Elizabeth, NJ, Loreen Duren of Elizabeth, NJ, Lisa Duren of Elizabeth, NJ, Anniebell McClinton of Elizabeth, NJ, Ruth Barnes of Camden, Louise Atkins of Camden, and Mattie Mae Barnes of Camden; uncle, Joseph Barnes; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gloria Williams of Brooklyn, NY; special friends, Charles “CP” Perry, John Keyes, Jerome Williams, Johnny Brown, Bobby Barnes and Kenneth “Chubby” Johnson; and a host of cousins.

A funeral service for Mr. Duren will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff, SC at 11:00 am. An all day viewing from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm will be held Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff, SC. The Rev. Jimmy Montgomery will be officiating.
