Obituary of Thurman Eldred Clardy
CAMDEN- A celebration of life service for Thurman Eldred Clardy, 85, will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9-10 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. John United Methodist Church.
Mr. Clardy passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Born in Conway, he was a son of the late Thurman Sloan and Carrie Cox Clardy. Mr. Clardy was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and was the state president of the FFA when he was in high school. He was a graduate of Clemson College with a degree in AG education. After graduation, he worked for Clemson doing research in tobacco with farmers in Horry and surrounding counties. He then worked with ASCS office and was transferred to Camden where he worked for 6 years. After his tenure with the ASCS, he went to work for DuPont where he worked for 30 years before retiring.
Mr. Clardy was an avid gardener, loved bee keeping, and could fix anything. He was a Clemson Tiger through and through. He loved his children, and his grandchildren had a special place in his heart.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Minnie Jane Evatt Clardy; children, Michael E. Clardy (Dawn) of Little River, S.C., Paula Jane Boller of Anderson; Alisha Dawn Holder (Scott) of Pickens; and 4 grandchildren, Georgia Toney ,Meagan Wallwork, Daniel Wallwork and Michaela Clardy. He was predeceased by siblings, Iris Ellis and Thurman Sloan Clardy, Jr.
