My Grandaddy—more than just a grand parent, he was a wonderful friend and mentor. From as far back as I can remember until Monday, Oct. 14th, 2024 when he entered the kingdom of heaven, I have visited or spoken with him at least once per week. Often much more frequently than that! He used to pick my brother and I up from elementary, middle and high school so that we didn’t have to take the bus, so we were together almost every day during that time of my life. He taught us how to work hard, that punctuality is a good thing, and that you should always tell the truth. As an adult I would go have my lunch with him every workday that I could unless he had an appointment or something and then would still visit with him for a while on my way home. Now I am wishing I had stayed and reminisced with him a little longer each of those times, but I am very thankful for all of the time I was able to spend with him during all the stages of my life and I will always cherish his memory and the lessons that he taught me. His loss hurts on a scale I can hardly describe, but knowing how strongly my grandaddy trusted and believed in God gives me a resounding sense of peace knowing he is in Heaven and reunited with Libby and has ultimate healing through Christ. Cheers to a wonderful man who lived a full and happy life! His memory will be carried on by the future Pates! Rest in peace, Grandaddy. I love you so much and I will miss you!
