Obituary of Dorothy "Dottie" Thitchener

CAMDEN- Dorothy A. “Dottie” Thitchener, 91, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024. Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late George Dewey Dunn and Elsie Van Leuven Dunn. Dottie was a member of Bethel Worship Center. She enjoyed reading, book clubs, cooking, gardening, bird watching, road trips, building snowmen in the winter with her grandchildren; and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was a bookkeeper most of her life. When she was younger, she loved to dance the Lindy Hop and other 1950’s dances. Dottie was always a member of a church and loved to serve others. She gave her time and presence every Monday to visit people who couldn’t leave their homes. She brought friendship and company in to them. Dottie volunteered with Meals on Wheels. In the church, she volunteered with the children’s programs and also with the Grief Share program. She gave herself selflessly and cared deeply for others in her community. Her smile, warmth and laughter would brighten and soften any room. She was always grateful for all of her blessings.

Surviving are her children, Vicki Pryor of Camden, Kenneth Thitchener (Anna) of Lugoff, Noranne Bagrosky (Frank) of Marlboro, N.Y., Kim Robinson of Black Mountain, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Thitchener; and siblings, Enid Habanoski, Pauline Elliott and Maynard Dunn.

In lieu of services, the family of Dottie will be receiving friends Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. at Bethel Worship Center in the HUB. The family invites you to join them and bring a finger food for a time of fellowship and sharing stories about Mrs. Dottie.
