LUGOFF – Funeral service for Evelyn Martin White, 79, will be held on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Mrs. White passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Born in Camden, she was the daughter of the late Henry Frank and Bertha Patterson Martin. She received her Bachelor’s of Art Degree from Benedict College and her Masters of Education from the University of South Carolina. She taught in the public school system in Kershaw County, Sumter County, Beaufort County, Anderson County, Fayetteville N.C. and Germany. Mrs. White was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Camden and the Eastern Star Chapter 190 in Longtown, S.C. Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Herbert White; son, Martin E. White (Charlotte) of Elgin; sisters, Bertha Martin, Frances Martin and Betty Thompson; grandsons, Ransom Coleman White and William Martin White; sister-in-law, Alice White Williams; and brother-in-law, James Jenkins. She was predeceased by brother, Julian Martin; and sister, Blondell Martin Jenkins.
