LUGOFF – Funeral services for Lester Dowey, 63, will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Eric Boone and the Rev. Michael Hillard will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church, puppet ministry or building fund, at 836 Pine Grove Rd, Lugoff, S.C. 29078. Mr. Dowey passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Ernest Preston and Beulah Peake Dowey. Mr. Dowey was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where he served as an usher. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the Pine Grove Fire Department. He enjoyed woodworking and gospel music. Surviving are his sisters, Dorothy Catoe (Sidney) of Lugoff, Ernestine Ray (Claude) of Lugoff, Linda Rhodus (Bill) of Camden; brothers, Ronald Dowey (Mary) of Lugoff, Ernest “Sam” Dowey, Jr. of Lugoff; 28 nieces and nephews; and 51 great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Brown, Reola Campbell, Sarah Ray, Ophelia Moak; and brothers, Raymond Dowey, Bobby Dowey, and David Dowey Sr.
