Obituary of Roy Rederick

LUGOFF – A graveside service for Roy Richard “Sgt Red” Rederick, 69, will be held Monday at 12:00 p.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the AMVETS. Sgt Red, husband of the late Louise Bryce Dodds, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Born in Confluence, PA, he was a son of the late Louis and Doris Shipley Tagliaferri. Sgt Red retired from the U.S. Army Airborne Rangers after 22 years of service, which included 5 tours in Vietnam, and over 523 jumps. Mr. Rederick was a very decorated soldier including the Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Army Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Vietnamese Jump Wings. He was a member of the AMVETS, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting guns and knives. Surviving are his son, Connor Rederick of Lugoff; step-son, Mike Williams (Renea) of West Columbia; sister, Shelia O’Losky (Dick) of DuBois, PA; brother, Franklin Humberson (Joann) of Mackeyville, PA; and 2 grandchildren.
