CAMDEN- A celebration of life service for Mary Geraldine Fields “Jerry” Saunders, 85, will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Camden, with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. The Rev. Bruce Hancock will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Camden. Mrs. Saunders, wife of the late John Crofford Saunders, Jr., passed away Monday, April 13, 2015. Born in Lumberton, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Zachary and Alberta Covington Fields. Mrs. Saunders was a member of First Baptist Church, Camden, where she served as both the choir secretary and a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed sewing, reading, playing bridge and traveling. She was famous for her homemade pound cakes and cinnamon rolls and for always having the answers to the daily crossword puzzles. She had several life-long friends who will always cherish the good times and laughs they shared with her. Surviving are her daughter, Laura Saunders; daughter-in-law, Teresa Saunders; grandchildren, Danielle Sheheen Davis (Jim), Mary Barnhill (Nick), Willie Truesdale, Zach (Laura), Lyle (Amber), Jennifer and Jessica Saunders; 4 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joan Faires. She was predeceased by her son, John Crofford Saunders III, brother, Ross Fields; and a sister, Peggy Benson.
