LUGOFF – A visitation to celebrate the life of Shirley Ann Nelson, 72, will be held August 1, 2015 from 2 – 4 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the National Rifle Association. Mrs. Nelson passed away Monday, July 20, 2015. Born in Fostoria, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Georgie Mothersill McGeorge. Mrs. Nelson, formerly of Lapeer, MI, graduated from Lapeer High School in 1961. She enjoyed shooting, canning, and cooking. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Dale Nelson; sons, Barry Nelson (Mary) of Camden and Jeffrey Nelson (Kimbrie) of Florence; sisters, Beulah Deming, Juanita Walker (Robert), Betty Johnson and Ruby Morey (Richard); a brother, Stanley Pike (Donna); grandchildren, Layla Ballard-Sholly (Edward) and Derek Lutz (Anna); and great-grandchildren, Henry and Vivian Lutz. She was predeceased by a sister, Myrtle Creamer. The family would like to extend a special thanks to KershawHealth Hospice and Ali, as well as the staff of the KershawHealth oncology Department and Dr. Sommers for their care and compassion.
