ELGIN - A memorial service to celebrate the life of James Ernest House, 69, will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Rev. Jerry Lewis will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Mr. House died as he lived quietly and peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2008. Born in Pine Level, N.C., he was a son of the late John Ernest and Maude Elizabeth Hinnant House. He loved his books and visits from his family. His silent and generous spirit will be missed. Surviving are his loving sister, Marilyn J. Collins of Elgin; nephews, Timothy and Steven Collins; nieces, Barbara Brittain, Sherrie Collins Balmer, and Kathy Linette; five great-nephew and nieces; and four great great-nephews and nieces.
