LUGOFF - A memorial service for Dorothy Jean Barry, 65, will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Northeast Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. George Crow, Rev. Jonathan Jones, and Rev. Henry Clay will officiate. Memorials may be made to Northeast Presbyterian Church for African Missions, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, S.C. 29223, Healing Path Ministry, 295 West 67th Street, Jacksonville, Fla. 32208, Navigators Missions Organization, 450 Running Fox Road West, Columbia, S.C. 29223, or the Salvation Army. Miss Barry went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 27, 2009, after persevering through many years of debilitating illnesses. Born in Jersey City, N.J., on October 13, 1944, she was the youngest daughter of the late Arthur and Emily Barry of Linden, N.J. She was a 1967 graduate of Millersville University with a teaching degree, and received her Master’s Degree from Penn State University. She dedicated her life to teaching middle school students in the Bensalem School District for 30 years. She touched the lives of many students especially those who were homebound with terminal illnesses. She retired in 1994 due to health issues and moved to Lugoff, S.C., to live with her sister. She then moved to Jacksonville, Fla., for five years where she was an active member of Christ Church PCA. She later returned to Lugoff and recently became a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church. She was a devoted supporter of overseas missions. Miss Barry enjoyed taking several sabbaticals to travel throughout the world. She enjoyed needle work, creative writing and was an avid attendee of Broadway performances. She is survived by her sister, Emily B. Thomas of Lugoff; and niece, Tracey Jones and her husband, Rev. Jonathan Jones of Jacksonville, Fla. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends especially her by great-nephews, Nathaniel and Brennan Jones. Hebrews 12: 1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
