CAMDEN - A gathering of friends and family for Edwin A. Miller, 83, will be held Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Lakeview Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Mr. Miller died Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Born in Takoma Park, Md., he was a son of the late Edwin T. and Ida Hinkson Miller. An accomplished vocalist, he served as music director for many churches in Washington, D.C., Brandywine, Md., Kingsport, Tenn., Gatlingburg, Tenn., Lumberton, N.C., Lake Waccamaw, N.C., Chadbourn, N.C., Hallsboro, N.C., Tabor City, N.C., Whiteville, N.C., Clinton, S.C., and Camden, S.C. He also served as director of music at Boy’s Home of North Carolina. Mr. Miller had retired from teaching music in public school systems in North Carolina and South Carolina. He often shared his talent as guest soloist in many of the classical works and entertained in retirement communities. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Katherine Lousie Bovard; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Katherine and Ikey Pitts of Camden; and grandchildren, Isaac Post Pitts, III, and Michael Edwin Pitts. He was predeceased by several siblings.
