COLUMBIA - A celebration of life service for Rev. James McKinley Shaffer, 80, will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, Camden. Rev. Sheila Rogers, Rev. Frank Griffith, and Rev. David Weaver will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Rev. Shaffer died Monday, September 27, 2010. Born in Minerva, Ohio, he was the son of the late Hobart M. and Charlotte Elizabeth Henry Shaffer. He was a graduate of Cedarville College, Cedarville, Ohio where he received his Bachelors Degree, and from Western Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pa where he received his Masters of Divinity. He retired as a Presbyterian minister having served churches in Pittsburgh, Pa., Towson, Md., Canton, Ohio, Franklin, Ind., Indianapolis, Ind., Muncie, Ind., New Castle, Ind., and Camden, S.C. Rev. Shaffer was a lifetime member of Kershaw #29 and held a 50 year membership with Ebensburg Lodge #550 in Knox, Pa. He was a member of the Golden Men and enjoyed making stained glass, hunting, fishing and photography. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Jean Boarts Shaffer; daughter, Lynn Thompson (Jay) of Rock Hill; sons, Jeffrey Shaffer (Jenny) of Auburn, Ala., Bruce Shaffer of Atlanta, Ga., Douglas Shaffer (Tracy) of Baton Rouge, La.; sisters-in-law, Jean Shaffer of Alliance, Ohio, and Mary Shaffer of Wooster, Ohio; brother-in-law, David Boarts (Cathy) of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter. He was predeceased by his brothers, R. Joseph Shaffer, Thomas H. Shaffer; and sister, Elaine Grace Telles.
