Obituary of George Buren West, Jr.

CAMDEN – A private family service for George Buren West, Jr., 88, will be held in Bethany Cemetery in Charleston, S.C. 

Mr. West passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023 at The Colonial at Old Camden.  Born in Spartanburg, S.C., he was the son of the late George Buren West, Sr. and Rosa Benson West.  He served in the United States Air Force and received his BS Degree in Accounting from Baptist College (Charleston, S.C.).  He retired from the US Government, Department of Defense, Office of Inspector General.

Mr. West was also a USTA Official up until 2 years ago.  He officiated at many of the College of Charleston, The Citadel, and USC tennis tournaments.  He also volunteered at the former Daniel Island Family Circle Tennis Center and taught tennis lessons to kids for years.  He enjoyed playing tennis and reading.  Mr. West was a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church in Sullivan’s Island.

He lived on Daniel Island (Charleston) prior to relocating to Camden, SC in 2021 to be closer to his daughters.

Surviving are his daughters, Angela West McKoy (Brice) of Camden and Karen West Ralston of Camden; his ex-spouse, but love of his life, Mary Lynn Caldwell West; and grandchildren, Manning Chase McKoy, Sailor Hart McKoy, Sullivan Brice McKoy, Grace Victoria Ralston, Matthew West Ralston and Olivia Crosland Ralston.
